Three messages to get a Google review after a job: what to say in person, the next-day text, then a single reminder.
Happy customers rarely leave a review on their own: they are not against it, they simply do not think of it. Unhappy ones think of it without any prompting. If you never ask, your rating ends up reflecting your few bad days.
The request that works is short, arrives while the customer is still pleased, and includes the direct link. Every extra step, finding your profile or signing in, makes a good share of people give up.
Find the direct link to the review form
From your Google Business Profile, the option to ask for reviews gives you a short link that opens the rating window directly. Send that link, never the address of your profile.
Save it in your phone's notes: you will send it in ten seconds in the evening without looking for it.
What is not allowed
Offering a discount, a gift or a prize drawing in exchange for a review, or only asking the customers you know are happy: Google's policies prohibit it, and the FTC treats paid or selectively gathered reviews as deceptive. Ask all of your customers, simply.
When to use it : Right when the customer sees that everything works. A request made in person lands best, as long as you mention the message that will follow.
Everything is done on my end. If you are happy with the work, I have a small favor to ask: I will text you a link to my Google page tonight, and a two-line review would help me a lot. Many people choose who to hire by reading those reviews.

The next-day text
When to use it : The following day, while the job is still fresh. The link should open the review form directly, not your profile page.
Hi [first name], this is [your first name] from [your business]. Thank you again for having us yesterday. If you have two minutes, a quick review would help me a lot: [review link]. Have a great day.

One reminder, a week later
When to use it : Once, never twice. It points out that it is quick and leaves the door open if something was not right.
Hi [first name], just a quick reminder, no pressure: if you have a moment this week, your review of [your business] would mean a lot to me: [link]. And if anything was not right, please tell me directly, I would rather know. Thanks, [your first name]
